Workshops Film Making / Digital Playground (DP)
Since a few years we offer schools students between 14 – 19 years the opportunity to attend workshops filmmaking in cooperation with Digital Playground. In three hours time, they shoot short scenes with a digital camera and edit the digital material with specially developped software into a short film with sound, which is shown in one of our film screening halls and uploaded on a special website. In 2007 73 workshops took place for 1.600 pupils.
The participating filmmakers:
Every 6 months, we have a DP Film festival, with awards for best film, best acting, etc. The winners of the DP Encouragement Award, - ALEXANDER SPOOR AND BART AARSSE - could participate in the NFFS (National Film Festival for Students) in Holland. On that festival, they won the 1st prize in the category Live Action (3th en 4th grade) with their film Het Sprookjesboek / The Fairy Tale Book.
Now they are selected by NFFS and Filmhuis Den Haag to contribute to the Electric December event.
About NFFS:
The Dutch National Film Festival for Students (NFFS) is a festival in the Netherlands where students can send in films that they made, either as a project in school or on their own. Movies made by teachers with help from students are not accepted in the competition. The organization’s aim is to stimulate schools to provide time and materials for students to make their own movies on school equipment. It’s also a great opportunity to gather all the participants together to meet and exchange ideas and experiences.
The competition is becoming more popular every year. In 2008 (the fourth edition of the festival) more than 400 students participated, and over 110 films were sent in. The creators of the movies and their teachers were invited to meet in Lelystad on September 22, 2008 to watch the movies that were in the competition, and to attend workshops on acting, animation, camera technique, and shooting news footage (amongst others) and meet Dutch movie celebrities.
Movies can win an award in the following categories: Animation middle school, animation high school, live action 12-14 years old, live action 14-16 years old, live action 16 and over, non-fiction middle school, non-fiction high school and the new category One Minute Movies. The students that attend the festival also get to choose an audience award. The festival’s jury consists of famous people from the Dutch movie scene. There are 2 young actors in the jury (16 and 19 years old) The first price in every category is a trip to the Camera Zizanio film festival in Pyrgos.
