Bristol film making company Calling The Shots, in conjunction with the City Academy and The Pierian centre will be working with three groups of 15 young people aged 14 -18 from Bristol (St. Paul’s and Easton), Bristol’s twin city Hannover (Germany) and Poznan (Poland) to produce a 15-20 minute film with the young people around the theme of migration in co-operation with film makers from each city. The young people will be involved at every stage of the production, from devising the screenplay, acting, camera work and design through to the final edit. It is hoped that the film will be screened at Watershed in December 2009 and Channel 4/the BBC have already expressed an interest in filming the young people while they are working on the project. The project will be led by Bristol City Council who has been successful in securing funding under the EU’s Youth in Action programme.
Before the three groups meet for the first time in Bristol, UK in late October to develop the script for the drama ‘Full House’, the young people from each venue will begin work in September 2008 in their own cities, creating three short films about where they live - these three initial films will be included in this year’s Electric December. Filming on the drama will then start during the Easter vacation 2009 when the participants from the 3 cities will meet in Hannover, and conclude with them all filming in Poznan in October 2009.
Calling The Shots is an award winning production company committed to widening participation in the media for new talent, young people and under-represented voices from the community.
